Quality

QUALITY IN EVERY STEP

  • The recipes for Terraerden substrates were carefully developed by professional agronomists and scientists – experts from different European countries, who have decades of experience in their fields.

  • We are not just a brand developer - we are a producer who controls the entire value chain from the extraction of peat in our own peat bogs in Latvia to the final product placed on store shelves. Thus, we can ensure that our substrates, including all raw materials and constituents, meet our strictest quality standards.

  • Only the highest quality internationally acclaimed peat is used when producing our substrates, together with other professional components.

  • Technological innovation plays an important role in the development and production of our products. We keep pace with innovations by constantly investing in scientific research and development, technology and equipment in our facilities.

  • Digital control of our mixing facilities, dispensing of additives, and reliable quality assurance at every stage of production ensure that all quality standards are met.

  • Certificates from one of Europe's most authoritative institutions, the Gütegemeinschaft Substrate für Pflanzen e.V. (RAL) with continuous, extremely strict and thorough product control confirm the highest quality of Terraerden substrates.

  • An implemented rigorous quality control system covers every step of the production of the growing media.

Results of an Independent Study

  • In 2022, scientists from Klaipėda University Botanic Garden conducted an independent study to compare the germination and growth of various plants in Terraerden and 4 other hobby substrates from probably the best-known brands (in the Baltic countries and the EU) for hobby substrates, as well as in regular soil used as a control.

  • They compared six substrates from each brand, serving different purposes:
       - Substrate for sowing seedlings;
       - Substrate for flowers;
       - Multipurpose substrate;
       - Substrate for strawberries/rhododendrons;
       - Substrate for cactus/succulents;

       - Substrate for orchids.

  • The study was extremely comprehensive, lasting four months and evaluating 13 different parameters. It involved 359 quantitative and qualitative evaluations for each brand's substrates, resulting in a total of 2154 measurements/evaluations.

  • The final aggregated results are evident: Terraerden substrates secured the first place with an extremely large (almost double) gap of 356 points, while only 51 points separated the second to fourth ranked brands.

  • Out of the 359 measurements/evaluations made, Terraerden substrates clearly demonstrated the best performance, achieving 257 first places (140 times in first place and 117 times in shared first place), and only 4 times in last place (1 time in last place and 3 times in shared last place).

  • The scientists from Klaipėda University who conducted the study reached an unequivocal conclusion – plants germinate and grow best in Terraerden substrates.
